About Mr. Forney

I was born in Bremerhaven, Germany. Growing up in an Army family, we moved every couple years. I started high school at James I. O’Neill High School in Highland Falls, New York, and finished high school at Sundance High School in Sundance, Wyoming. I went to college three times! I received a bachelor’s degree in Literature and a master’s degree in Mental Health Counseling. After working as a therapist for a few years, I had the chance to student teach in the Counseling Program at Montana State University in Bozeman, Montana, and after loving it so much, decided it was time to return to teaching. Before moving to Rapelje, I taught at Bozeman High School.

I’m a total book nerd, so I am stoked to talk books with you! I want to hear all of your book recommendations, and if you think there is something you read that the class should hear about, let us know! I have a very broad and non-judgmental reading appetite. In the past couple months, my reading has included off-Broadway plays, some of Tillie Walden’s graphic novels, a few of the domestic thrillers that seem to have exploded in popularity since Gone Girl, and reading through the Percy Jackson books. Reading should be about fun, and together we can work towards that goal!

I also love sports. I’m a huge hockey and football fan. I thoroughly enjoy music, and while my musical tastes are pretty all over the place, hard rock is my usual go to. The last concert I went to was Breaking Benjamin and Five Finger Death Punch, and it was wonderful.

I am thrilled to be your teacher, and I can’t wait to see how we can grow together, not only as readers, writers, and speakers, but also as people. I look forward to support your journey. I can’t wait to get started!
